Egyptian Pyramids of Concrete?

I guess some Egyptologists and geologists are already likely screaming and protesting bloody murder and climbing the walls over this, but anyway, according to Professor Michel Barsoum of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Drexel University (Pennsylvania), many of those huge “stones” making up those enormous and magnificent “stone” pyramids from Egypt’s illustrious and mysterious ancient past, may have actually been constructed of a primitive but nonetheless highly efficient form of concrete, dubbed “geopolymers”!! Yup, that’s right, you heard me! Instead of being huge chiseled blocks of natural limestone as long believed, Barsoum and his team of researchers have concluded that some of the blocks of the Great Pyramids of Giza are composed of a limestone mix and aren’t natural at all! Blocks were found with a high water content, which was not normal, along with chemistries that have not been found to exist naturally in nature. In one unusual sample there was a very strange presence of silicon dioxide nanoscale spheres, each with tiny diameters of one billionths of a meter across.

This might explain, it has been speculated, the difficult question long posed Egyptologists: How is it that some of the stone blocks were so perfectly cut and matched that a human hair couldn’t be fit in between them? And if they were chiseled with copper tools, as many had believed, why hadn’t any of those tools ever been found?

“The basic raw materials used for this early form of concrete-limestone, lime, and diatomaceous earth can be found virtually anywhere in the world,” Professor Barsoum explained. “Replicating this method of construction would be cost effective, long lasting, and much more environmentally friendly than the current building method of choice: Portland cement that alone pumps roughly 6 billion tons of CO2 annually into the atmosphere when it’s manufactured.”

“Ironically,” he adds, “this study of 4,500 year old rocks is not about the past, but about the future.”

Barsoum’s research might help to explain some mysteries, though it’s admitted that how the Egyptians hoisted 70-ton slabs halfway up the great pyramid remains as big a mystery as ever.

I shared this story with a number of close friends and one emailed me back to say that she remembered years ago reading about how an Egyptian block had been broken open and a human fingernail had been discovered inside. Anyone have more information on this story or any others of potential interest?

This makes me wonder about all of those enigmatic “stone” walls and such in Peru that fit together so tightly and perfectly and sometimes in such unusual configurations. You might just wanna stick this in your Funk and Wagnall and smoke it!

Plans for UFO Theme Park in Roswell

The annual Roswell UFO Festival draws people from all over the world to this New Mexico city of 50,000. In fact, since 1992 the International UFO Museum and Research Center boasts that some 2.5 million people have visited it. Tourism related to the legendary 1947 UFO crash site has become Roswell’s biggest tourist attraction. According to City Planner Zach Montgomery, one of the top complaints heard from Festival attendees is that there’s not enough to do in Roswell! Well, Montgomery and other Roswell city officials are promoting plans to have a multi-million dollar UFO-themed amusement park constructed. The park, that may open as early as 2010, will include various rides and attractions. One of the rides, over which there has been a lot of discussion, is of an indoor roller coaster that would take its passengers on a simulated alien abduction. I’m certainly not sure how they’ll incorporate those two things together, but I applaud their imaginative and gutsy creativity. Reportedly, at another theme park, such a roller coaster ride is under construction at a reported cost of nearly $100 million dollars! No small chunk of change. There’s also been talk about building an exhibit hall with the latest scientific information and displays pertaining to the evolving exploration of the universe.

While civilian UFO investigations and research struggles largely on a shoe string budget and the majority of UFO “experts” and authors write books that are usually commercial flops, and must travel and lecture very, very frugally, it’s nice to imagine that a UFO and ET themed park may be the next profitable adventure for the cunning and visionary business leaders of Roswell, New Mexico.

Hopefully, if these plans move forward the good city fathers and community leaders of Roswell won’t suffer the same fate that befell Erich von Daniken’s ancient astronaut based Mystery Park in Switzerland, that after just four years was forced to close down due to a lack of visitors and, of course, resultant financial problems.

Warnings from the Academics

Meanwhile, mainstream Christianity is certainly striving to make it big with a similar formula as well. Just recently, on May 28th, in Petersburg, Kentucky, the lavish 27-million dollar, 60,000 square foot Answers in Genesis creationism museum opened its doors to the public, amid protests from academics who were concerned that the park’s scientific appearing exhibits was going to mislead regular folks with its religiously biased portrayal of history and science. In fact, more than 600 academics signed a petition warning parents and teachers that students who accept the Creation Museum’s arguments as sound science would be “unlikely to succeed in science courses at the college level.” After all, it has these really neat and cool realistic looking animatronic dinosaurs frolicking with Adam and Eve! Designed by the same creator who constructed the King Kong and Jaws exhibits at Universal Studios. Such heresy! To Ken Ham, the founder, president and chief executive officer of Answers in Genesis, the earth is just 6,000 years old, and all dinosaurs, including the Tyrannosaurus Rex, were vegetarian before the fall of Adam and Eve. Mythological tales of dragons are believed, by Ham, to have been evidence of dinosaurs only a few thousand years ago. He believes that the behemoth in chapter 40 of the Book of Job is a dinosaur also.

Ken Ham was quoted saying, “We’re using really good research from Ph.D. scientists on staff and those who are associated with us to give scientific evidence in biology, geology, astronomy and anthropology to confirm the Bible’s history and to show people that evolution is not fact.”
